When You Find Something You Love...Reach For It.

I'm always on the search for furniture and my family can attest to the fact that at any given time, the people from Hoarders might come knocking on my door. Maybe I just need to invest in a storage locker. But, I  like to keep all my furniture close so that I can start on my next project right away which is sometimes at 9 o'clock at night and I don't intend to jump in my mini-van and cruise out to a scary storage facility in the dark!  So, who really stores a car in the garage anyway? Do kids ever really learn to park their bikes in garages?  Well, that's my logic for taking over the garage and basement with all my mounds of furniture for future projects.

I'm always on the look out for beautiful pieces of furniture that are begging for a new beginning. I gravitate towards those in the saddest states, which ultimately means more work for me, but the reward of seeing the end product is well worth it. I hem and haw over many decisions in my life, but not usually when I'm working on furniture projects. The minute I see something I love, I reach for it...or, pull over and snag it off the curb. I think that is one of the most liberating parts of this craft. The freedom to just grab something I love, without the stresses of the routine life decisions.  There is little risk and high reward.  As I think about this, I hope that we all have some outlet in our lives to abandon our daily worries and reach out for something we love and enjoy it. Where we the get the thrill of adventure, freedom and even a bit of recklessness.

Below is a beautiful entry way table that I found on Craigslist last year. I fell in love with it immediately, and who wouldn't? It has beautiful intricate legs, both drawers and shelves for lots of storage and the rounded top swivels. Not to mention, it had been through some tough love. The top was stained, one leg had been gnawed on, it smelled and in the legs there were hundreds of tiny dog hairs trapped in the varnish. Gross, I know, but I was in love.

The table sat in my garage for nearly a year. Every time I went out to the garage, I would stop and examine it's beauty and think  about how I would tackle it. Finally, this spring, I dragged it into the house. Here is the table in all it's glory. Handsome, don't you think? I knew this table would sell quickly, and it did, the very next day!

What a transformation!

Lots of storage too.

Look at these legs, so detailed.

Thanks for reading! Hope you have time today to go out and enjoy something you love!
